Juan Luis Guerra dominates Latin Grammy Awards

Las Vegas - Dominican artist Juan Luis Guerra dominated the Latin Grammy Awards Thursday night, winning honours for album of the year, song of the year, record of the year, tropical song and best merengue album for his single and album La Llave De Mi Corazon. Guerra was also chosen this year as "person of the year" by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Ricky Martin won for best male pop vocal album for his critically acclaimed MTV Unplugged album and for best long-form music video for his Unplugged special. He also wowed the audience by opening the Las Vegas awards show by performing his hits Lola and La Bomba accompanied by Las Vegas performers The Blue Man Group.

Laura Pausini's Yo Canto won for best female pop vocal album, Calle 13 won best urban album and best urban song, while best pop album by a group with vocal went to breakout act La Quinta Estacion for its album El Mundo Se Equivoca. Best new artist was Mexican brother/sister duo Jesse & Joy, while Aterciopelados won best alternative album for Oye.
