NEW YORK, Nov. 8 An upcoming episode of the new U.S. cable series "Monsterquest" features an image that could be that of the largest squid ever caught on video.
"Monsterquest: Giant Squid Found" is slated to air Nov. 14 on The History Channel.
A squid researcher and a team of filmmakers set out last year to videotape a monster-sized squid in the wild, the cable channel said in a release. Previously, large squids have only been videotaped when they were caught on hooked lures or in nets.
Led by explorer Scott Cassell and filmmaker Doug Hajicek, the expedition found and filmed a squid -- estimated to be between 50 feet and 100 feet long -- at a depth of 1,000 feet in Mexico's Sea of Cortez.
Using a technique developed by Hajicek, the team attached a small camera to a large Humboldt Squid, and then released it into the depths, so it could record the footage, some of which can be seen at History.com.
