WARSAW, Poland, Nov. 8 Poland has opened a refugee center, the second of its kind, to accommodate foreigners who want their refugee status made legal.
The refugee center at Przemysl in southeastern Poland, close to the border with Ukraine, can house 138 immigrants, Polish Radio said Thursday.
The center, which is equipped to provide healthcare services, was built in a former military barracks at a cost of $4 million. An EU special fund supplied 85 percent of the $4 million, the radio report said.
About 8,000 people are waiting for refugee status in Poland.
The Polish government plans to build another three refugee centers. Poland's other refugee center is at Lesznowola, south of Warsaw, can accommodate several hundred people.
Maj. Marek Osetek of the Polish border police admitted the number of refugee centers isn't satisfactory.
It appears that a majority of people seeking refugee status in Poland find their own loving arrangements as illegal immigrants.
