Hamburg - SV Hamburg and Werder Bremen closed the gap on the leading Bayern Munich on Saturday as they won their Bundesliga matches, while Bayern were held to a goalless draw at home by Eintracht Frankfurt. Bayern have 28 points from their 12 games, while Hamburg, who beat Hertha Berlin 2-1, are two points behind. Bremen, who won 1-0 against Hansa Rostock are a further two points behind.

In Bremen the home side completely dominated the first half and won through a Hugo Almeida goal scored in the 39th minute, while Hamburg won with goals by Paolo Guerrero and Bastian Reinhardt.

Hanover 96 moved into fourth place in the table with 21 points after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1, while Bayer Leverkusen had the biggest victory of the day, beating Arminia Bielefeld 4-0.

Champions VfB Stuttgart won 1-0 at Nuremberg through Mario Gomez's fifth goal of the season.

On Friday self-proclaimed title candidates Schalke 04 lost 1-0 at bottom of the table club Energie Cottbus, for whom Christian Bassila scored a minute after the restart.
