Baghdad - Balad Ruz police department chief survived an assassination attempt Thursday in an attack on his motorcade, independent Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency reported, citing an official source. An explosive device was detonated targeting the motorcade of Colonel Fariss al-Omayri, killing six of his bodyguards and injuring eight others, the source added. Balad Ruz in Diyala province is about 70 kilometres north-east of Baghdad.
