Nanning, (China) Oct 30 (Xinhua) The UN Development Programme (UNDP) will provide funds to promote two China-Vietnam trans-border economic cooperation zones, a Chinese official said here Tuesday. The decision was taken during a meeting here between UNDP representatives and officials of the China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchanges (Ciete) at the 4th China-ASEAN Expo here.Ciete official Zhao Yongli said the UNDP has a plan to fund the construction of the two trans-border zones. He did not disclose the size of the fund or when it would come. One of the zones will be built across Pingxiang of Guangxi, south China, and Langson province of Vietnam, and the other across Honghe of Yunnan, southwest China, and Lao Cai, Vietnam.Renaud Meyer, the UNDP's deputy representative to China, said that China-Vietnam economic cooperation zones will not only promote local economic development, but also help in reducing poverty in the region.Meyer hoped entrepreneurs from the two countries would participate in the project. Tan Dung, prime minister of Vietnam, said earlier this year that he would support the establishment of trans-border economic zones. (c) Indo-Asian News Service
