LONDON: Video game software and hardware developer Sega Europe Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox announced an agreement to develop new game titles based on the Alien franchise for next generation gaming consoles.
The two companies said in a statement a first-person shooter game and a role playing game are now under production and are scheduled for release in 2009.
Simon Jeffery, president and chief operating officer of Sega America, said Alien has become one of the most recognized franchises in the motion picture industry and Sega will utilize the power of next generation systems to blend the time-honored story with leading edge design technology to deliver a suspenseful gameplay experience.
Since its debut in 1979, Alien film franchise has generated more than $557 million in revenue worldwide. It has also won several awards.
Elie Dekel, executive vice president of Fox Licensing & Merchandising, said his company looked forward to partnering with Sega, which is a leader in the gaming industry, to expand the program to the next generation gaming systems.
Sega markets next generation video game titles for Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii.
