Vienna - In a country where football success stories are so rare that legendary victories are being talked about 30 years after the event, Austria can pride itself in having once more conquered arch-nemesis Germany. Last weekend, Austria wrested back the tabletop football world record from Germany. A team of four players in Tyrol in western Austria played 484 matches in 44 hours, 44 minutes and 44 seconds, Austrian broadcaster ORF reported, beating a world record set by a German team last July.
"With this great achievement we were able to top the record set by Germany by almost four hours,""tournament" organizers Rico Gimbel and Philipp Eiter said. The four tabletop athletes had already once held the world record in 2004, back then shooting the ball across the board for more than 33 hours.
Incidentally, Red won against Blue 2,420-2,350, altogether 4,770 goals where shot in the 484 matches.
