LONDON - The 2007 British Academy Video Games Awards were dominated by Wii Sports as Nintendo's flagship game swept gameplay, strategy and simulation, innovation and sports category awards. The award ceremony took place at the Battersea Evolution Center last night.
However Xbox title Bioshock took home the best game award, which somewhat took the shine off Wii Sports. The latter has been Nintendo's best-selling game as it allows games to play tennis, golf or bowling by converting the Wii controller into the said sport's racquet or a golf club.
But Sony Computer Entertainment suffered an embarrassing night as its PlayStation 3 games failed to garner any awards. Its predecessor PlayStation 2 was in evidence though with Okami bagging the best artistic achievement and original score awards.
Okami is a popular game featuring a "celestial brush", which allows users to pause the game and draw or add scenery on their screens. PS2 had a decent night with God of War 2 taking home the best story and character award and the technical achievement gong.
The awards for the best use of audio and action and adventure went to Xbox 360 title Crackdown. This award was voted upon by an expert jury.
