JOESTROM, Sweden, Oct. 19 A 72-year-old hunter in Sweden survived a night in the snow after his Jeep got stuck.

Stellan Mikkaelsson said he left the vehicle and started walking to seek shelter, but was forced to stop when darkness fell, The Local reported.

The search for Mikkaelsson began when he failed to return to the hunting lodge where he had been staying near Tarnaby. After sunrise, searchers found his Jeep and then followed his tracks in the snow to the place where he spent the night at the edge of a lake.

Mikkaelsson said he built a fire and kept himself awake all night. He was afraid if he slept he would freeze to death.

"I froze so badly last night that I didn't even have the energy to eat or drink," he told the TT news agency. "It was snowing and raining and very windy and I didn't have any extra clothes with me."
