Johannesburg - South African regae star Lucky Dube was shot dead in a Johannesburg street attack late Thursday, police said. The 43-year-old singer was attacked in an apparent car-jacking in the Rosettenville district as he had just dropped his son off in the area.

South Africa's Sapa news agency quoted police Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht as saying: "His son was already out of the car. When he saw what was happening, he ran to ask for help."

The hijackers were still at large and the son was too traumatised to provide police with any information, Engelbrecht added.

Dube, born in Johannesburg in 1964, survived poor health in infancy and became a top and well-loved reggae performer who recorded over 20 albums, including Rastas Never Die, Think About The Children, Soul Taker, Trinity and his latest, Respect.

Sadden'
By: Danwan (Solomon Islands) , Fri, 19 Oct 2007 23:55:56 GMT

Its more than the expectations of all Reggae fans in the uttermost part of the world where Lucky had onced visited in year 1994.The untimely passing of Lucky can be traced as a history in the Reggae business as someone who struggle to show the light for his own his own people but rather denounced him at their own expense as losing a great icon in their history.
Nevermind, from our sympathetic hearts we thank you for the great mission so far in your career as a Reggae star from your generation....May the images of your songs always be lingered treasured vividly in hearts forever... may your soul peaceful rest eternity.

Condolence
By: Bill , Fri, 19 Oct 2007 08:06:44 GMT

It actually sad for me and family for the shucking news about a LENGED who was killed in front of two kids without have pity for them, it obvious that people can be so heartless to kill a father in front of his children without even having pity.

With tears in my eyes, I pray for God who alone knows the best to have His way, and I want to use this medium to ask the Family of our beloved LEGEND (LUCKY DUBE) to take HEART, we all know is had to be bear, but they should take heart.

Finally, may the His Gentle Soul Rest in Peace, Amen.

Regards

William from Nigeria

Lucky Dube shot dead
By: Dikeledi , Fri, 19 Oct 2007 06:24:02 GMT

Lucky Dube was born in Mpumalanga, and not in Johannesburg as some reports say. Please get your facts straight and do not just guess in a hurry to publish the story.
