Hong Kong - School children may face random drug testing under a proposal put forward by education chiefs, local media reported Thursday. Security Minister Ambrose Lee confirmed that tests on the hair of students is being considered, The Standard newspaper reported.
"The Education Bureau will inform the schools as well as the parents about the details of the scheme," he told the newspaper.
Under the plan, a few strands of hair will be cut from students and sent to a laboratory in the United States for testing.
Lee did not say when the scheme, which is intended to combat the problem of juvenile drug abuse, would be launched.
