Milan - Inter Milan fans who abused visiting Napoli fans during a Serie A match on October 6 have been banned by a sports judge Tuesday for one game, the ANSA newsagency reported. Die-hard fans of the Italian champions showed offensive banners and made insulting chants against Naples and its inhabitants during the game. Inter won the match 2-1.

Part of the north curve at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, which is traditionally occupied by the Inter fans, is to remain empty when the Italian champions welcome Genoa on October 31 after two away games to Reggina and Palermo.

The sentence, which included a fine of30,000 euros (42,500 dollars) for Inter, is the first of its kind since the recent introduction of a norm allowing judges to target unruly fans rather than closing the whole stadium in case of violent events.
