You got to ensure that you are at home tonight by 8 p.m. unless you want to miss the action in The Golden Globe Awards, which will be aired on NBC, Channels 4 and 10.
The Golden Globe Awards Ceremony, which was once rated second to the Oscar Award Ceremony, is all set to steal the media hype from Oscars.
Now in the 62nd year, the Golden Globe Awards are announced before the Oscars, which will be announced by Jan 25th. As the Globe is timed before Oscars it is quite obvious that what happens today is going to affect the voters of Oscars. What influence the Globe will have on publicity and fame of Oscars is a completely different question. If one looks at the strength of working journalists, Globe has only about 95 working journalists, which is nothing in front of Academy's 6,000 reporters.
So who will be the nominees tonight? Lets make a guess.
Best Picture: Martin Scorsese's "The Aviator" which tells the story of Howard Hughes' early years. Another nominee would be "Million Dollar Baby," Clint Eastwood's dated boxing saga.
Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, again from "The Aviator." I loved his lively performance in the movie. Johnny Depp from "Finding Neverland" too can go for the award.
Best Actress: Here comes the tough part. Nicole Kidman for "Birth" is likely to be challenged by Imelda Staunton from Mike Leigh's "Vera Drake."
Best Foreign Film: "The Motorcycle Diaries” and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” might accompany “The House of Flying Daggers,” which is a Sony Pictures presentation.
Best Supporting Actress: Laura Linney from "Kinsey" and Virginia Madsen from "Sideways," might compete with each other for the award.
Best Supporting Actor: Thomas Haden Church who enticed audiences by his performance in "Sideways," will be facing a tough competition with Clive Owen from "Closer" for the award.
Best Director: Clint Eastwood for "Million Dollar Baby." Who else do you think?
