Los Angeles - A co-defendant had signed a plea agreement in the OJ Simpson armed robbery case and will testify against the former American football star, according to news reports Monday. The plea deal of Charles Cashmore, 40, increases the likelihood of Simpson being convicted in the case and serving jail time. Simpson is currently free on bail of 125,000 dollars, after being charged with kidnapping and seven other charges for allegedly organizing an armed raid to recover memorabilia he claimed had been stolen from him.
Simpson, 60, served three days in jail following his initial arrest in the case in September, sparking a media frenzy reminiscent of the coverage of the 1995 trial over the murder of his wife and her friend. Simpson was sensationally acquitted in that case, though he was found liable for their deaths in a later civil case.
Simpson faces life imprisonment if found guilty on the current charges. He faces a preliminary hearing on November 8 in which a judge will decide if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.
