Stuttgart - The most powerful Porsche 911 car ever built, the GT2, will be on sale in Germany next month at prices starting at 189,496 euros (269,000 dollars), the company announced. Presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the GT2 stands out with a modified front fascia with larger air intakes, special 19- inch wheels, and a marked fixed biplane spoiler on the rear.

Fitted with a twin-turbocharged 390 kW/530 hp engine, the car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 329 km/h.

Porsche lists the average fuel consumption at 12.5 litres with a C02 emission of 298 g/km, calling it a "significant efficiency boost".

With a production run of only 1,300 units planned, the super car will probably only have a miniscule affect on the climate, anyway. The car is aimed mainly at hobby race car drivers, seeking a thrill at weekend club events. The designation GT2 relates to models built for the racetrack.

Compared to the 911 Turbo, the GT2 is 145 kilogrammes lighter and the engineers have done away with the all-wheel-drive system in favour of rear-wheel drive only. Light sports bucket seats and ceramic brakes were installed. The exhaust system is made of titanium reducing the weight by a half compared to stainless steel.

Compared to the Carrera, the new GT2 has 50 hp more and almost 300 hp than the 1970s 911 Turbo with 234 hp.

Other technical features include anti-lock brake system Active Suspension Management and a Launch Assistant which boosts up when the throttle and clutch are fully depressed for maximum performance from standstill.
