BAGHDAD, Oct. 3 Insurgents targeted the convoy of Poland's ambassador to Iraq Wednesday in Baghdad and killed one civilian and injured at least four others.
Polish Gen. Edward Pietrzyk, 58, was riding in a three-vehicle convoy of sport utility vehicles all bearing the red and white flag of Poland when a bomb planted in a parked car was detonated, CNN reported.
Pietrzyk sustained minor injuries and was taken to a U.S. military hospital. Several of his private security guards were injured and taken to various hospitals, Iraqi Interior Ministry officials said.
A Los Angeles Times correspondent said it wasn't clear if the target was the ambassador or his guards, as anger is running high against hired foreign guards since at least 11 Iraqis were killed last month in Baghdad during an operation by Blackwater USA, a private firm.
Elsewhere, Interior Ministry officials said nine bodies were found Tuesday scattered throughout Baghdad, a day after 11 bodies were found. The ministry said that last month 301 corpses had been recovered in the city.
