Patna, Sep 29 - Heavy rains lashed Patna and other parts of the state Saturday for the second consecutive day triggering fears of fresh floods.

The heavy rains since Saturday morning inundated large areas in Patna, including posh residential localities and the high security VIP zone, where the state assembly building, secretariat and other government offices are located.

Normal life has been thrown out of gear due to heavy water logging. 'The condition is really pathetic, it was not so bad till Thursday but after the heavy downpour since Friday morning, it was difficult to imagine anything other than water accumulation,' said Arun Singh, a resident.

Most people were forced to remain home, affecting business establishments, schools, colleges and offices.

Rainwater entered hundreds of houses in low-lying areas of the city forcing people to move to safer places. Even areas generally considered free of water logging were inundated.

Residents vented their anger on the Patna Muncipal Corporation (PMC) and Urban Development department for the state of the state capital.

A resident, Anand Sharma, said: 'PMC is working only on paper, not on the ground as main roads and busy places in the heart of Patna are all flooded.'

All the major rivers in flood-affected north Bihar districts are flowing near the danger mark for the last few days.

The state is yet to recover from the last month's devastating floods that affected over 22 million people and claimed over 650 lives.

The met department has forecast moderate to heavy rain for the state during the next 24 hours.
