Playtex shareholders OK Energizer takeover

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Playtex Products Inc said on Thursday that its shareholders approved for the maker of sunscreen and tampons to be acquired by battery company Energizer Holdings Inc .

The company, whose brands include Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic and Wet Ones, sees the acquisition - valued at about $1.16 billion plus the assumption of debt - closing on or about October 1.

Playtex was trading up 3 cents or .16 percent, at $18.28, while Energizer was down $1.45 or 1.3 percent, to $110.12 on the New York Stock Exchange at midday.
