Ljubljana - Slovenian journalists on Wednesday sent a petition to 300 institutions and media outlets around the European Union and Slovenia to protest government pressure and censorship. The petition, signed by 438 press workers, detailed a number of cases of interference by the government of EU member Slovenia, accusing the centre right government of Janez Jansa of directly and indirectly meddling in the autonomy of the press.

Although the petition was primarily critical of the government, it also targeted the country's other political forces as well as private and state owners of media companies.

Thanks Gregor, that's exactly what I meant.

I agree with Cath, on every account, I just think she missed out a word in the sentence where she says that the media support the left wing political option and particularly Janez Janša. I believe she meant that that criticise Janez Janša for every move he makes. Otherwise, yes she is right. The media in Slovenia manipulate with everything in their effort to turn people against the present government. They are fed by those who can not overcome the loss of power a few years ago. And they are spitting their anger all around. If they only realised how ridiculous they look.

If this was true, how come that Slovenian media succeed to enlessly attack the government and its prime minister. If there was any repression or censorship, as they claim, media would only praise government, right. The truth is that this government has been criticised from the begginning of its existance, for every step made, even for promtly and efficiently reacting to the recent floodings, just because they reacted well. The truth is that the majority of journalists in this country get a deegree at the faculty where their minds are sistemytically brainwashed by teachers who were brought up in the former communist regime and were always its proteges. The great majority of the media in this country have never been indepenedent, they are very dependent and very openly supporting the left wing
political option and particularly Janez Jansa, the only politician in this country who has never been working in his own private interest but in the interests of this country. However incredible this might sound! read the economic results of this government, read the pools, this government has constant 40 % and more support from the people all the way throught its mandate (2004 - 2008), even in the pools made by the opposition papers. They cannot get around, no matter how hard they try to diminish anything that this govenrment has done good. Of course there are things that could have been done more or better but the present opposition has had that opportunity for twelwe years. Where were they?
