India open for business in New York

New York, Sep 24 - The who's who of Indian business, industry and government will participate in high-powered business conferences from Sep 24-26 as part of the Incredible India@60 road show in New York.

Their aim is to create awareness about brand India, push for investment in the country and foster continued economic growth. They will be joined by some global business and thought leaders.

The most important conference titled 'India@60: A new age for business', Sep 25, will focus on infrastructure, Indian companies going global, financial sector growth waiting for reforms and digital opportunities. It is presented by Asia Society, US-India Business Council and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Those addressing the daylong meet include P. Chidambaram, Indian finance minister, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman, planning commission, Kamal Nath, commerce and industry minister, John Chambers, chairman and CEO, Cisco Systems, Nandan Nilekani, co-chairman, Infosys Technologies, Ramalinga Raju, founder and chairman, Satyam Computers and Sy Sternberg, chairman, New York Life.

The other daylong event is 'North East India Investment Conference', Sep 26. It will provide information on investment opportunities in eight Indian states in the northeast region.

It has been organised by the ministry for the development of the northeastern region and CII. Political leaders including chief ministers of some of the eight states, government officials, as well as institutional and industrial representatives will be available for interaction.

A panel discussion on 'India 2050: A grand strategy for India rising', Sep 24, will deliberate on the opportunities and challenges ahead for India to realise its immense capacity to become a global force. It is presented by Yale University and CII.

The panellists include Nandan Nilekani, Ramachandra Guha, historian and author and Thomas Friedman, foreign affairs columnist of The New York Times.

'Women and global leadership' is the title of another panel discussion on Sep 25, presented by Yale University and CII. It brings together some of the most high profile Indian women in the corporate world and the arts to deliberate on women's leadership in India and globally.

Panellists include Shabana Azmi, actress and social activist, Indra Nooyi, CEO, PepsiCo, Naina Lal Kidwai, CEO, HSBC India, Rohini Nilekani, chairperson of The Arghyam Trust, The Akshara Foundation and Pratham Books and Linda Koch Lorimer, vice president and secretary of Yale University.

Another panel discussion on 'Brand India - Where Next', Sep 26, will explore the transformation of India's image over the past 60 years and evaluate where India will be on the global stage in the coming decade.

Moderated by Andrew Heyward, former President of CBS News, the panellists include Jagdish Bhagwati of Columbia University, Nandan Nilekani, Vir Sanghvi, advisory editorial director, Hindustan Times, Arun Sarin, chief executive, Vodafone Group Plc and Martin Sorrell, CEO, WPP Group.
