Fierce fighting between gunmen and police have broken out early in the morning in which light weapons and mortar shells were used, police sources told Deutsche Presseagentur.

In another incident, five people have been injured, three of them Iraqi army personnel, by a minibus bomb north of the city of Baquba, 60 kilometres northeast of Baghdad.
