WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, in a Democratic response to President Bush's weekly radio address, ripped Bush for threatening to veto a child health care bill.
Congress is considering the re-authorization of the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Legislation which has already passed the House and Senate, but needs to be worked out in committee, would expand the $35 billion program. The program covers 6.6 million low-income children, and the bill would add an additional 4 million by 2012.
Rendell said 15 states will be out of SCHIP funding and thousands of children will lose their coverage if the president doesn't sign the bill by the end of the month.
"In recent days the administration has tried to turn this into a partisan issue and has threatened to veto," Rendell said. "The health of our children is far too important for partisan politics as usual. A veto battle in Washington would expose millions of children to the risk of losing insurance. That's simply unacceptable."
Rendell said "nothing speaks more to our obligations as a society than the need to provide for the health and well being of our children."
The president has said the bill is a move toward socialized medicine. Copyright 2007 by UPI

sad that you don't tell the whole story!! Bush called for refunding the program, but congress is using it as a backdoor for universial healthcare by raising the limit to 80,000 wage earner families, wher I'm from that is not poverty... let's tell the news and not play politics.. for it's we the people who have to pay the bills

When a country of ignorant C average people elect an ignorant C average president who is just like them, you get ignorant decisions. I'm just wondering why the masses feel the need to complain when they get what they voted for.
