WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 Steve Jobs, chief operating officer at Apple, has been called to give a deposition in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit.

The issue reportedly deals with an SEC civil suit accusing Apple's former top lawyer with illegal stock-option backdating. The SEC has said it does not intend to pursue charges against Jobs, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday.

Jobs is being deposed in a suit alleging Nancy Heinen, former Apple general counsel, manipulated stock-option grant dates twice in 2001 and altered company records. One of the option grants allegedly was made to Jobs, the other to members of his executive team, including Heinen and former Chief Financial Officer Fred Anderson.

Heinen has denied any wrongdoing.
