Baghdad - The US embassy in Baghdad has resumed dealing with Blackwater security company on a "limited" level, a US embassy spokesman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. The embassy has restarted limit convoy movement, which are being secured by diplomatic security personnel, he added.

On Sunday, a US diplomatic convoy was travelling through a Baghdad neighbourhood when it came under fire. Personnel working for Blackwater USA, one of the largest security firms with contracts in Iraq, returned fire, leaving 11 people dead.

The Iraqi government said those killed were innocent civilians. Blackwater says they were armed militants.

The US and Iraqi governments were also conducting separate investigations into the incident to determine whether the Blackwater team reacted improperly.

The shootings raised questions about the role of firms that provide security for the US government and private companies operating in Iraq.

Following the incident, Interior Minister Jawad al-Bulani rescinded Blackwater's licence on Monday.
