Hong Kong - Hollywood's Caped Crusader Batman has been told he cannot film his heroics in Hong Kong until he gives assurances that ordinary citizens will not suffer, a news report said Friday. District councillors have demanded more details from the makers of the new Warner Bros Batman movie The Dark Knight before they allow nine days of filming in early November, the South China Morning Post said.
At a meeting Thursday, they complained that too few details of the shoot had been provided and expressed concerns that it might cause serious traffic jams and inconvenience to residents.
Plans to shoot action scenes on the city's iconic Mid-Levels Escalator have caused particular concern with one councillor saying: "A lot of white collar workers go to the Mid-Levels for lunch using the escalator."
Eighty crew and cast members from the movie starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger and Michael Caine are due to come to Hong Kong for the filming of the latest instalment of the Batman series.
The film, which will also feature scenes shot in London and Chicago, will include night views of Causeway Bay, Central and the Peak shot from a helicopter, the newspaper said.
