Panama City - Panamanian President Martin Torrijos is set to throw the first pitch Saturday in a baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. Torrijos was invited to throw the honorary first pitch at Yankee Stadium in New York as part of celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, the president's office in Panama City confirmed Wednesday.
Torrijos will no doubt be greeted on the field by fellow- Panamanian Mariano Rivera, the Yankees closer and one of the top pitchers in the league, who was born in Panama City.
The Panamanian president will travel to New York Friday and plans to address the UN General Assembly next week.
