Munich - Bayern Munich will be competing for big-name signings after a change in transfer policy appears to be paying dividends, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said. Bayern spent a club record of more than 70 million euros (97 million dollars) this summer on signing internationals such as France's Franck Ribery, Italy's Luca Toni or Germany's Miroslav Klose.
And Rummenigge told Germany's Sport Bild weekly on Wednesday that these sort of signings were now "the new way" for the club.
"We are all of the opinion at the club that quality alone is the decisive factor. That's the only thing that counts in the future," he said.
Bayern had in the past been hesitant at playing inflated prices for big-name players.
But a disappointing fourth place in the Bundesliga last season and the desire for a more attractive playing style has seen a change of direction.
The new-look Bayern have begun the season in impressive style and top the Bundesliga after five unbeaten games.
A similar spending spree is not on the cards but any investments the club make will be on top-quality players even though they come at a price and upset existing wage structures, Rummenigge indicated.
"As far as quantity is concerned we will be acting more modestly, but not with regard to quality," he said.
"The present good experience with stars like Luca Toni and Franck Ribery has convinced us to go down this route," he said
