London - A new suspected case of foot-and-mouth disease has been found on a farm in Britain, where two cases of the infection have already been confirmed. The Agriculture Ministry, Defra, said Tuesday that initial blood tests on sheep on a farm in the surveillance zone in Surrey, near London, had proved positive.
All animals on the farm are to be slaughtered and tests were continuing.
Two cases of the highly-infectious disease have been confirmed on farms in Egham, in Surrey, where a 10-kilometre exclusion zone has been set up.
The suspected exposure comes only days after the latest outbreak appeared to have been contained.
From Sunday, farmers outside the stricken area were permitted to start taking their animals for slaughter again, following the outbreak last week.
