Hamburg - Two second-half goals from Serbia striker Marko Pantelic gave Hertha Berlin a 2-1 win at MSV Duisburg in the German Bundesliga Sunday. The victory moves Hertha to fifth, two points behind leaders Bayern Munich who were held 1-1 by Schalke on Saturday.
In the day's other Bundesliga game, newcomers SC Karlsruhe came from behind at Wolfsburg for a 2-1 win to go sixth.
Hertha had lost their first two away games without scoring a goal. But Pantelic broke the deadlock with a fine strike into the roof of the net from the edge of the area in the 61st minute.
He added his second nine minutes later with a deflected shot which looped over goalkeeper Tom Starke, before Klemen Lavric gave Duisburg late but ultimately vain hope with a 78th-minute header.
"We didn't play well but we won, and when you win a game like that it shows the quality of the team," said Hertha coach Lucien Favre.
Karlsruhe left ambitious Wolfsburg languishing in 16th place and still looking for a first home victory this season.
Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath has spent big to make Volkswagen-backed Wolfsburg a name in German football, and there was a debut for 8-million-euro (11 million dollars) Brazilian striker Grafite.
It looked positive for the home side when Poland midfielder Jacek Krzynowek's struck from long range in the 21st minute.
Grafite was also unfortunate to see a shot just deflected past the post by the leg of goalkeeper Markus Miller.
But the visitors triumphed with headed goals from Mario Eggimann in the 63rd from a free-kick and Christian Eichner in the 79th, with the Wolfsburg defence unable to cope with crosses into the area.
Magath said: "Again as in Berlin or against Schalke we did not carry on playing after scoring but fell back and allowed the opponents back in the game.
"We will have to analyse this in peace and quiet and take the right consequences. But we have made big changes and we have to realize that things take time and don't immediately go quite so smoothly."
On Saturday, Bayern Munich dropped points at home for the first time this season in a 1-1 draw with Schalke.
Bayern had to thank Germany striker Miroslav Klose for a second-half equalizer to leave the two pre-season title favourites as the only sides still unbeaten in the German league after five matches.
Bayern, who were held 1-1 at Hamburg in their last league game, have 11 points, while Schalke are four points adrift in eighth place.
Also Saturday, Arminia Bielefeld downed bottom club Hansa Rostock to move second, level on 10 points with Eintracht Frankfurt who earned a late 2-1 win over visiting SV Hamburg.
Borussia Dortmund are fourth after a 3-0 defeat of Werder Bremen on Friday evening. Bayer Leverkusen, who beat Bochum 2-0 on Saturday, are seventh, while champions VfB Stuttgart, who defeated Energie Cottbus 3-0, are ninth.
