Hong Kong - Three men were due to appear in a Hong Kong court Thursday after police raided a pirate DVD factory and seized 13,000 pornographic discs. The three men were arrested in a raid on a rented site in an industrial park where the pirated discs with a street value of almost 67,000 US dollars were found on Wednesday.
Twenty-two disc burners and 17,000 blank discs were also discovered at the premises in what police sources say was the base for a syndicate selling pirate discs overseas by mail order.
Video and software piracy is rife in mainland China but a major crackdown since 2000 has seen a huge reduction from more than 1,000 to less than 100 shops selling pirated discs in Hong Kong.
