Lisbon/London - Gerry McCann, the father of missing British toddler Madeleine, has been declared a formal suspect in connection with her disappearance, his lawyer in Portugal said early Saturday. Lawyer Carlos Pinto Abreu made the announcement in the town of Portimao, in southern Portugal, where Gerry McCann had been questioned by police for eight hours.

Earlier, police made Kate McCann, Madeleine's mother, a formal suspect in the case after four months of investigations.

Madeleine disappeared from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, on the Algarve, on May 3.

Let us not forget that over 95% of homicide victims are relatives of, or are known to the culprit(s). As a retired detective I can say with certainty that we the public know about only a fraction of the evidence which has been gathered during the investigation. From what has been released there are some disturbing discrepancies in the stories of the parents. I feel that this has always been the most likely scenario - and have always felt that the answer lies close to the crime scene and close to the family.

Ok, Kate McCann kills her daughter, puts the other children to bed. Goes out to a tapas bar and drinks wine till 10am with her friends. Pretends to discover Madeleine missing and tells everyone she's been abducted. Somehow in between all this she manages to stow the body somewhere, where?? then five weeks later puts it in a hired car. Miraculously after all that time blood manages to spill from the body as Kate gets rid of it. Give us a break, is this really professional police work Portugese style. Its absolute rubbish to cover their total incompetance from the start. God help those poor parents, have they not gone through enough, without having to endure this crap. Maybe some good will come of this if there is an investigation into the police methods and the other mother who was jailed for killing her child is proved innocent. I sincerely hope so, remember Lindy Chamberlain, now that was a witch hunt with a so called pathology 'expert' from UK giving evidence of baby's 'blood' in a camera bag which turned out to be rust.

This is absolutely crazy!! What is the portaguse police up to now?!! I like SO MANY others believe this is definitely a SET UP by the 'crooked' people. Check out briansdreams.com Brian admits he is not psychic but his dreams seem to come true and he has helped solve many cases - FOR FREE!! He has lots of info on Madelein Mccann-and his dreams point to her being still very much alive! Check it out-so far as far as the parents - these dreams of his are coming true!(He also admits he is not a very good drawer -as he records his dreams-writes them down and draws what he sees.

WELL, WHO HAD that VEHICLE the night Madeleine went missing!!! That is a small area. It seems likely that if there was blood in the vehicle, the person that had it rented the night she went missing would be the suspect.
