Hanoi - Four people were killed and six others injured when a jealous husband set off a hand grenade in his home in northern Vietnam, police said Monday. Police said that Dinh Van Tu, 29, pulled the pin of a hand grenade during a heated dispute with his wife over rumours she was having a love affair with another man
The blast instantly killed Tu's wife, Nguyen Thi Loi and his sister Dinh Thi Phuong, according to the deputy chief of police in Cao Loc district in Lang Son province, 150 kilometers north-east of Hanoi.
Also killed were a police officer and the village chief, who had come to Tu's home to try to mediate the row, the official said.
Six other people, including Tu himself and also his wife's suspected lover, were hospitalized with shrapnel wounds after the explosion on Sunday, which was Vietnam's National Day.
Tu was in critical condition on Monday and police are waiting to see whether he survives before placing him under arrest, authorities said.
Police said they did not know where Tu, a farmer, obtained the grenade. Weapons and munitions are strictly controlled in authoritarian Vietnam.
