Osaka, Japan - Jeremy Wariner edged a little closer towards the world record when he led a United States medal sweep in the men's 400 metres for back-to-back world titles on Friday. Olympic champion Wariner clocked 43.45 seconds to take gold ahead of team-mates LaShawn Merritt (43.96) and Angelo Taylor (44.32). It was the first sweep for the US over the distance at the worlds.
Wariner lowered his personal best of 43.50 seconds by five hundredths of a second and is now just 0.27 seconds away from Michael Johnson's world record 43.18 from 1999.
