ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - (Business Wire) Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT), provider of vWorkspace, a single virtualization solution for application delivery and desktop deployments, today announced plans to support Microsoft RemoteFX, a Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 feature currently under development, in future versions of Quest products.

Quest vWorkspace supports multiple centralized desktop platforms, including Microsoft Hyper-V-based virtual desktops, Remote Desktop Session hosts (formerly known as Terminal Servers) and physical/blade PCs. vWorkspace delivers advanced management capabilities including connection brokering, desktop provisioning and user experience optimizations, and provides support for Microsoft Hyper-V Server R2, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

We're delighted to see this exciting new capability coming to the Remote Desktop Services platform,” said Jon Rolls, division vice president of product management for Quest Software's Desktop Virtualization Group. “Microsoft RemoteFX increases the range of applications and user workloads that can be delivered remotely, and delivers a higher level of user experience for graphically intense applications.”

Added Rolls, “With our vWorkspace product, we will continue to enhance and extend the Remote Desktop Services platform to deliver user experience optimizations, especially for remote workers with WAN or Internet connections. We believe these optimizations will be especially important for customers using RemoteFX, and currently plan to extend our support to include RemoteFX within 30 days of its availability.”

Quest vWorkspace brings numerous benefits to customers centralizing desktops using Remote Desktop Virtualization Hosts with Microsoft Hyper-V and Remote Desktop Session hosts, including greater reductions in total cost of ownership, increased levels of user acceptance and faster rollouts of desktop virtualization projects. The addition of Microsoft RemoteFX into this technology stack raises these benefits to a higher level, increasing the adoption of desktop virtualization on the Windows platform.

“As organizations plan deployment of a centralized computing architecture with virtualized or session-based desktops, IT professionals want to deliver a premium user experience to connected workers,” said Mike Schutz, director of product management, Microsoft Corp. “The Microsoft RemoteFX feature in Windows Server will allow remote workers to access any type of application or screen content, including rich media and 3D applications. Companies like Quest Software offer a path to the future by investing today in solutions that will increase the flexibility and performance of a centralized desktop environment.”
