Delhi - One of India's main states, Madhya Pradesh, has banned the sale of a "vibrating condom" saying its use was against Indian culture, a media report said Tuesday. Kailash Vijayvargiya, a senior minister in the central Indian state, said the Crezendo condom was a "sex toy" and the government would not allow its sale in the state, the CNN-IBN network reported.
Madhya Pradesh, one of India's largest states, is ruled by the Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) whose leaders had earlier banned sex
education in the state as they were against the
graphics and pictorial descriptions used in the course material.
According to Hindustan Latex Limited, the company that manufactures Crezendo, the condom has a vibrating ring and comes with an instruction leaflet.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan defended his government's decision to ban the condom.
"I had said this earlier as well with reference to the sex education in the state," he said. "If there is something that is not acceptable to our culture, we will take our own decision on this."
