Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian anti-narcotics police have detained six people, including a family of three Singaporean nationals, believed to be part of a major drug syndicate, a news report said Friday.
A raid on an apartment in Johor state Tuesday led to the seizure of 8 kilograms of ketamine and ecstasy powder and pills worth more than 500,000 ringgit (156,250 dollars), the Star newspaper said.
The three Singaporeans - a 28-year-old man and his parents aged in their 60's - are believed to have been part of the syndicate for more than a year, police said.
Despite the country's tough drug laws prescribing death by hanging for drug traffickers, the numbers of addicts and drug busts in
Malaysia have steadily risen in recent times.
