Mexico City - Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Liechi pledged Thursday that
Beijing would do everything to help the upcoming Cancun climate summit to succeed.
In remarks as the bilateral China-Mexico commission was starting two days of talks, the Chinese minister promised "maximum efforts" on his country's part to contribute to a reduction of global warming.
The Cancun summit is scheduled for November 29 to December 10 to try to reach a new international agreement on climate protection. The current Kyoto protocol on
climate change expires in 2012.
Yang is heading a large Chinese delegation to
Mexico for talks on deepening a strategic partnership that the two countries agreed on in 2003.
More than 150 delegates from the two countries were attending the bilateral commission meeting set to review potential areas of cooperation under the partnership.
