New York - US stocks were mixed on
Wall Street Friday, with an unexpected increase in
retail sales as shoppers defied heavy snow in February, boosting some results. Retail sales rose in February by 0.3 per cent, the US commerce department said. A decrease of 0.3 per cent had been expected, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The blue-chip
Dow Jones Industrial Average added 12.85 points, or 0.12 per cent, to 10,624.69. The broader Standard and Poor's 500 Index dropped 0.25 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 1,149.99. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.80 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 2,367.66.
The US
currency was off against the euro at 72.63 euro cents from 73.057 euro cents on Thursday. The dollar dropped against the Japanese currency to 90.56 yen from 90.69 yen.
