Yangon - A team of retired Brazilian
football players headed for Myanmar's Irrawaddy Delta Monday to visit victims of Cyclone Nargis after holding a charity match to raise money for ongoing relief operations, officials at the
Myanmar Football Federation said. The 23-member Brazilian team was scheduled to visit Kyugyangon and Prapon, two districts that were hard-hit by Nargis, which swept over Myanmar's southern delta region on May 2-3, leaving about 140,000 people dead or missing.
The Brazilians, including several well-known retired players such as 1994
World Cup star Paulo Sergio, staged a charity match against Myanmar's football team Sunday. The South American side won 4-0.
Proceeds from the match, amounting to 6,400 dollars, are to go toward Nargis relief efforts, federation president Zaw Zaw said.
Another charity match is to be held Tuesday.
