Berlin - A thief stole an unmarked
Berlin police car following a high-speed car chase Sunday. The two police officers left the keys in the vehicle when they jumped out to chase the occupants of another car which crashed after they had pursued it.
The officers gave chase to the vehicle after it passed them on the city motorway at the illegal speed of 165 kilometres an hour, pursuing it into the downmarket Wedding district of the German capital.
When the car crashed into a parked vehicle, the occupants abandoned it and the police officers gave chase on foot.
Minutes later they saw their own vehicle driving past.
The Berliner Morgenpost newspaper reported the police vehicle, equipped with two
video cameras for trapping speeding offenders, was valued at 100,000 euros (150,000 dollars).
