| Response
from Amarjit Sidhu, Earth Times photographer, to
letter from Charles D. McLean, spokesman of World
Economic Forum:
I
would like to clarify a few points regarding the
letter from Charles McLean of the World Economic
Forum.
Firstly Mr.
McLean claims that no other photographer
was allowed at the breakfast with Bill Gates.
This is absolutely not true--several colleagues
of mine without the "White Pass" were
present at the breakfast while Courtney Zoffness
and I were denied entry by the WEF media liaisons,
including Mr. McLean himself. When I asked
him why we were being denied entry while others
without passes were entering the meeting he
told me the "I should know better why." At
the time I did not know that we were carrying
a story regarding the lack of media access
to the Annual Meeting.
Secondly, I ran into Mr. McLean several times
during the meeting, though we rarely spoke.
On the last day of the conference, after the
final press conference, I thanked him for whatever
help he had given us. That was the extent of
our interaction and I did not, as Mr. McLean
claims, apologize to him on either my behalf
or the behalf of any of my colleagues. I do
not believe I had any reason to apologize as
I was simply doing my job and getting the photos
required for our paper.
Sincerely,
Amarjit Sidhu
